The
region covers the parts of Queensland below the green line (postcodes 4000-4470,
and 4479-4670).
The area between the green line and the red line formerly belonged to BASQ, but has been ceded to the newly created Birds Australia Capricornia. BAC was a sub-group of BASQ. BAC also gained postcodes 4731 - 4805 from BANQ (Birds Australia Northern Queensland). The BASQ area thus includes members below the irregular green line from Birdsville in the west to Bundaberg in the east, including the towns of Birdsville, Windorah, Quilpie, Charleville, Injune, Taroom, Monto, Bundaberg, but not Cheepie or Gin Gin. The region has about 690 members. The area does not coincide with the usual definitions of Southern Queensland or Central Queensland. It was determined by the fact that the database of members has their geographic locations as addresses with postcodes, and is therefore determined by the way Australia Post allocates these. Area of operation Birds do not recognise map boundaries and neither do we. Although most of our activities take place where we live, we have carried out a bird survey in the Mulligan River Nature Refuge in Central Queensland, and Birds on Cotton Farms workshops in the Gunnedah and Wee Waa areas of Northern New South Wales. Similarly, Birds Australia Northern New Wales Group has a major project in the Diamantina National Park in Queensland. Our concern as members of Birds Australia is for the conservation of
Australian Birds. We actively seek opportunities to work towards this
end in cooperation with like-minded organisations. Map data from Geoscience Australia |
