BASQ supplies up to 4 birdwatchers per site at any one time. Surveys are conducted on each property per year at dawn - surveyed once in summer, autumn, winter and spring each year. The first of these surveys occurred on 28th and 29th October 2006. Ten participants helped to survey, over two days, two properties in Moggill and two properties in Brookfield. Properties ranged in size from 26ha to as small as 4ha. For each property a 2ha 20min search was conducted recording the species and numbers of each species seen. A habitat form was also completed to identify the properties characteristics. A larger area search of the property was then conducted for one to two hours, recording down all species sighted. The area search in these instances involved all of the property as the property sizes are significantly less than within 500m of a central point. In 2008 surveys were held on the weekends of 19 -20January, 3-4 May, and are scheduled for 19-20 July and 24-26 October. If you’re interested in participating in this important project contact Dez Wells-BCC coordinator — Dez Wells Deputy Convenor Voluntary Conservation Agreement. Private property owners can join the VCA program. The program provides Council assistance to help property owners conserve native bushland on their property. Land for Wildlife is a voluntary program that encourages and helps landowners provide habitats for wildlife on their property. They must be committed to managing part of their property in a way that maintains and enhances native habitat, and integrating nature conservation with other land management objectives. ↑ Top |
